Refocusing

In January 2024, my main writing goal for the year was to start on a larger project at the beginning of the year and complete it by December. A few months into the year, I was writing more frequently than I ever have, but all of that writing was for the blog. Blog posts are 500–1500 words on average and take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours to write and edit. They are like snack-size Snickers—they satisfy my writing habit for a bit and only take a bite or two of dedication to complete. What I was envisioning for my larger project was at least 30–40 thousand words that would take at least 4–6 months of dedicated effort to complete a first draft.

I finally realized around the middle of the year that regularly writing for the blog was serving as a distraction and delaying tactic. I felt good about getting up early and writing regularly, but my day-to-day writing was not moving me toward completing my larger project. Furthermore, I decided about two months ago that if I wanted to make any real progress that I would have to put this blog on hold for a while.

So that is what I’m planning to do through at least the end of this year. This doesn’t mean that I won’t occasionally post something if inspiration or opportunity strikes, but I won’t keep myself to a schedule of posting every other week like I have for the last nine months or so.

However, I do have something else to announce. A few weeks ago I started a Substack with the same name as this blog. I don’t plan to create original content for my Substack for now, but I will repost some of my better essays from this blog onto that platform while this blog is silent. If you are interested in following my Substack, you can find it here.

Thanks to all of you who have read, commented, and liked my posts so far. I don’t write to gain attention or accolades, but it is nice to hear that the time and energy I invest in the blog isn’t going into the void. It’s incredibly satisfying to hear that someone was blessed by something I wrote. To God be the glory!

TLDR: Invisible Things is not going anywhere, it is simply hibernating until the time is right for it to emerge once again.

The Lord’s blessings to all.
